GOING DEEPER QUESTIONS (SMALL GROUP)
 What stood out to you about this message and why?
 Discuss the conversation, circumcision and washing from the first
point in sermon outline. Share how one flows into the next; but
cannot precede the other.
 Why is faith and baptism so closely knit together in Luke 3?
 How did Jesus change things with His resurrection? (note acts 19 &
1 Peter 3:18-22)
 What doubts do you have right now? What are you doing about
them? Who will you strike up conversation with this week?

NOTES (PERSONAL)
Let’s look at the following passages of Scripture and see how both Belief and Baptism were viewed as partners in bearing witness of our faith:
 Mark 15:15-16
 Acts 2:38
 Acts 2:41
 Acts 22:16
 Romans 6:3-5
 Galatians 3:27
 Colossians 2:12-13
 I Peter 3:20-21
Without the presence of Believing Faith in the Gospel, all Baptism
does is get someone wet!

MESSAGE OUTLINE
Title: Baptism- God’s Invitation to You
Series: Annual Church Celebration Sunday 2018
Text: Supporting Scripture(s)
Main Idea: It all begins with a conversation
I. God’s Invitation (Old Testament)
 Pre-Babylonian Captivity
o Conversation. God starts talking to a 75-year-old
man who starts following Him (Genesis 12)
o Circumcision. God invited this now 99-year-old
man to make things permanent (Genesis 17)
o Washing. Walking with God changes us
(Numbers 19 *note: Vv. 11-13)
 Post-Babylonian Captivity
o Proselyte (non-Jewish) who desired to become a
part of the Jewish Faith would need to be
questioned to determine intention
(conversation), leading into commitment
(circumcision) and 7 days later, baptism
(washing) showing the letting go of old / past to
embrace the new!
II. God’s Invitation (New Testament)
 God talks to a guy in the wilderness and then sends Him
to share that conversation with others (Luke 3:1-22)
o A baptism that embodies all of the former
 Conversation to discover intention (Vv.7-9)
 Circumcised in heart by being baptized
(Vv.10-17)
 Washed and letting go of old to embrace the
new (Vv.10-17)
o A Baptism that empowers for the new! (Acts 19:1-10)
 Because of Jesus, God’s Spirit indwells us,
opening our ears to hear, eyes to see, hearts to
receive and empowering us to follow and live
for Him! *NOTE: 1 Peter 3:18-22
III. God’s Invitation for YOU TODAY! (Matthew 28:16-20)
 Don’t let doubt slow you down; trust Jesus today!
 Strike up conversations with others today!
