place it was originally lost? Why does God want to visit those places with
us in our own hearts / lives? How Does Peter display this? (John 21:15-19)

Main Idea: The Cross releases us to RISE UP in Him!
I. When the Servant does GREATER works than the Master
a.) Elijah means “Yah[weh] is my God”
Called of God to anoint Elisha, among others to
continue the work after him. (1 Kings 19:15-18)
b.) Elisha means “God has granted salvation”
2. Personal Relationship-> Identity anchored in God
a.) Elisha knew he needed greater strength,
beyond himself, for the task God has for him (2
b.) Elisha was not looking back, but forward
c.) The public ministry begins with healing
3. Identity Issues / Elijah’s Shadow (Vv.23-25)
a.) Public Leadership -> Surfacing the Lost (2 Kings 6:1-7)
b.) The school of prophets was growing and
needed a bigger place for training (Vv.1-2)
c.) Elisha gives blessing; but they want his
d.)As the work begins, a problem occurs (Vv.4-5)

II. Greater Things are Yet to Come; Still to be Done!
a.) Jesus (Elijah) prepares us (Elisha) for greater works in the
continuing effort of Gospel Missions (John 14:12-17)
b. )Holy Spirit = God’s Presence and Power
c.) Peter- restored to feed His sheep! (John 21:15-19)
d.) The Cross-raises us out of the murky Jordan of our sin,
failure, sense of defeat- the Cross is the TRUTH that
restores and sets us FREE!! (I Peter 2:21-25)
