Topic: Pulling Away from God

Going deeper questions (Life Group)

  • What stood out to you about this message and why?
  • Do people attend churches today believing that this will save them? How or why? Do you believe your attendance saves you? (Point I)
  • Did being a Jew mean you could live anyway you wanted? Do you ever live thinking some sins are small and ok- not hitting God’s radar?  (Point I)
  • How does one Trample, Profane and Reject Jesus by attending church without believing? (Point I)
  • Re-read Matthew 25:31-46; then Hebrews 10:30-39. How are those in both judged by Jesus- based on a profession of faith or a life that lives in the Spirit bringing God’s kingdom into the lives of others? (Point II)
  • How are YOU Loving & Serving today?

Message outline

Title:  Pulling Away from God

Series: Hebrews: Humanity’s Only Hope

Text: Key Passage-> Hebrews 10:26-39

Main Idea: Love for Jesus serves in Love those around them

  1. Knowing Versus Believing (Hebrews 10:26-31)
  • Church attendance will not save us (Vv.26-27)
    • Persecution was starting to create division; is sin really that bad? (Deliberate / habitual sinning)
      • See -> 2 Peter 2:14-22
    • False security blinds us from reality
      • See -> 2 Peter 3:1-13
    • (Lesser) Being Jewish did not save anyone (v.28)
      • Witness against Knowing versus Living; does God really see or care?!
        • See -> Deuteronomy 19:15-21
      • (Greater) Why it is worse for those attending but not believing: (v.29)
        • Trample the Person of Jesus
          • See -> Matthew 7:1-6
        • Profane the Work of Jesus
          • See -> 1 Corinthians 11:17-34
        • Reject the Person & Work of the Holy Spirit
          • See ->Zechariah 12:10;13: 7-9
        • Pulling back from Jesus, saying No to the Spirit- these are weighty grievances to God and will be judged by Him.
          • Matthew 25:31-46

  1. Keep Those Standards High (Hebrews 10:32-39)
  • As we draw closer to Jesus, His love flows into our lives and overflows into the lives of others.
  • Persecution is the pushback from this world; sin will not be destroyed until the end.

God’s Kingdom comes with every Yes to Him; allow His Fruit to grow, endure the challenges of the journey by knowing and loving Jesus more and more, praying in His Spirit and loving our neighbors.
