Series: Joshua: Salvation Through Judgment

Text: Key Passage-> Joshua 3:1-17

Main Idea: God is present and at work all around us!

  1. Faith is trusting in God’s faithfulness to us.
  • God’s Invitation to Abraham (Genesis 12:1-9)
    • God only showed the land to Abraham (v.7)
  • Joshua now stands with Israel to cross over Jordan and posses what was promised 400 years ago (Joshua 1:1-5)
  1. Faith is depending on God’s faithfulness (Joshua 3:1-3)
  • Israel waits 3 days for God’s direction (Vv.1-2)
    • The Jordan stands before them to remind them the first step is impossible without God (v.15)
    • The Spies, Rahab and the Report of Jericho all came back before these unfolding 3 days.
    • The verbiage of 3 days emphasis a time of waiting -> reflection -> preparation.
      • See -> Psalm 27:14
    • The Ark- God is with them (v.3). God leads; Israel follows.
      • See -> Deuteronomy 31:8 / Matthew 28:18-20

III. Faith is preparing for God’s faithfulness (Joshua 3:4-6)

  • Joshua leads the people to do 3 things during this time of waiting:
    • Submission: Look at the Ark, not the River (v.4)
      • See -> 1 Peter 5:1-11
    • Consecration: God is going to do wonders (v.5)
      • See -> Exodus 19:10
    • Obedience: Trusting God knows best (v.6)
  1. Faith is surrendering to God’s faithfulness (Josh 3:7-13)
  • Joshua now gathers the people to hear God’s direction as the Priests lead the Ark through them into the River Jordan.
  • 12 men from each Tribe / follow in surrender
    • Simon carries the cross and follows Jesus
      • See -> Luke 23:27
    • We too are to follow in this surrender
      • See -> Matthew 10:34-39
  1. Faith is walking in awe of God’s faithfulness (Josh 3:14-17)

Behold our God! (Joshua 2:11) Trust in His Word, not our sight!
