Main Idea: God is present and at work all around us!

 

Introduction: (Joshua 3:14-17) The Ark, symbolizing God’s Presence, had traveled 3 days throughout the camp leading the people to Jordan.  As the Priests bearing the Ark step in, the waters recede and land firms for the people to cross over Jordan.

 

  1. Following God’s Word (Joshua 4:1-8).
  • God directs Joshua (Vv.1-3)
  • Joshua directs the People (Vv.4-7)
    • Note -> Psalm 145:12
  • The People Obey (v.8)
  1. Trusting in God’s Word (Joshua 4:9-10)
  • Joshua sets up Twelve Stones where the Priest with the Ark stood amidst Jordan (Vv.9-10)
    • The seasons of the Jordan would conceal and then reveal the God who is present and faithful- even when we cannot see Him.
      • Note -> 2 Corinthians 5:7
      • Note -> Ephesians 3:13-21

III. Maturing in God’s Word (Joshua 11-14)

  • 40,000 fighting men of Reuben, Gad and Manasseh cross Jordan in front, armed and ready for battle to the plains of Jericho.
    • Note -> Hebrews 6:1-4
  • God exalts Joshua in the sight of all Israel, as He had done Moses.
  1. Waiting on God’s Word (Joshua 4:15-18)
  • God direct Joshua (Vv.15-16)
  • Joshua directs the Priests (v.17)
  • The Priests obey (v.18)
  1. Proclaiming God’s Word (Joshua 4:19-24)
  • So that all the earth may know through God’s growing family (Vv.19-24)
